Animals Out of Their Cages

On St. Patricks Day, we Jen and I took the beasts to the zoo!
We rode the train into D.C. to begin our adventure.

The monkeys were showing off all their best tricks!

Some animals like to press themselves against the glass.

They were getting a good look at what Laynie called the "Teddy Bear."

The boys quickly moved onto other interests. Here they are sitting on a Giant Salamander sculpture. But where were the girls?

Still watching the panda. He was hungry! We actually saw him eat. He peels the skin off bamboo with his teeth. He also likes to eat apples and yams.

The tiger was AWESOME!! Later he got up, started to pace and ROAR!!!

It was a long hot day that we probably won't repeat any time soon. The D.C. Zoo is built on a hill. You walk all the way to the bottom, then after you've seen everything and are exhausted, you trek all the way back up. Miserable.
Our favorite part of the day was when the baby gorilla, who as smaller than Laynie or Teagan, started wrestling with another gorilla. The big gorilla picked it up like a football and ran across the cage. After a few moments the mother gorilla got upset and chased it. It was so fun to see the animals having fun!

What a fun memory for everyone. Perhaps not as fun for the mothers, but what a neat experience you provided for the children. For some reason I have found going to the zoo results in a lot of walking uphill and down. Aside from the walking, the smell, the dust/dirt, etc. it is fun to see the excitement of the children. Memories are forever, especially with pictures, blogs, etc. What a great hostess you are Bec.....even when it is for everyone who comes to visit. You are really giving the children a chance to be guides of all the sights.
Love you all! G.G. Edie
